Audi has unveiled a bold new chapter in its performance story with the arrival of the all-new Audi RS5. Blending electrification with traditional six-cylinder power, this latest generation model signals a major evolution for the brand’s RS line-up. It also steps into a new role, effectively succeeding both the previous RS5 variants and the RS4 Avant, as Audi reshapes its naming strategy.
This time around, the RS5 will be offered exclusively as a Sedan and Avant, moving away from the Coupe and Sportback body styles of the past. Visually, it takes the sharp foundation of the latest A5 and amplifies it with a far more aggressive presence. Wider wheel arches, a gloss-black Singleframe grille with a honeycomb structure, and distinctive lighting signatures give the car unmistakable road presence. At the rear, a pronounced diffuser, large oval exhaust outlets, and subtle aerodynamic elements reinforce its performance credentials.
Inside, Audi has ensured the RS5 feels every bit as special as it looks. Buyers can choose from multiple interior design themes, all featuring RS-specific detailing. The digital displays include performance-focused graphics that showcase engine speed, shift indicators, and other dynamic data. For those who enjoy track sessions, the system can also provide information such as G-forces, lap times, drivetrain output, and tyre metrics, offering a comprehensive performance overview.
Under the bonnet sits an updated version of Audi’s 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. On its own, the petrol unit produces 503bhp and 600Nm of torque, thanks to refinements that improve efficiency and responsiveness. However, the real transformation comes from the integration of an electric motor paired with a newly developed eight-speed transmission.
This combination makes the RS5 the first high-performance plug-in hybrid model in Audi’s lineup. The electric motor contributes an additional 130kW and 460Nm of torque, drawing energy from a 25.9kWh battery pack. The battery supports AC charging at up to 11kW and can be fully recharged in approximately two and a half hours. In electric-only mode, the RS5 is capable of traveling up to 84km on paper, adding a layer of everyday usability to its performance profile.
When both power sources work together, total system output reaches an impressive 630bhp and 825Nm of torque. Despite weighing over 2.3 tonnes, the RS5 accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds, placing it firmly among the quickest cars in its segment.
Beyond straight-line performance, Audi has focused heavily on handling innovation. The RS5 introduces a new rear transaxle with electro-mechanical torque vectoring, part of an advanced quattro all-wheel-drive system with Dynamic Torque Control. This system continuously adjusts torque distribution between the rear wheels, enhancing agility, cornering precision, and stability. Supporting this technology is a revised chassis setup, RS-tuned steering, sport suspension with twin-valve dampers, and standard 20-inch wheels, with 21-inch options available.
Braking performance has also been modernised with a brake-by-wire system that prioritises regenerative braking before engaging traditional friction brakes when necessary. Steel brakes come as standard, while optional ceramic units reduce weight and improve stopping performance.
